Within the framework of the scientific and technical program 2024-2026 “Development and implementation of innovative technologies and new aqua-culture facilities that are economically effective in the natural and climatic con-ditions of various regions of Kazakhstan” under the project: “Testing and im-plementation of effective biotechnical methods for growing promising aquacul-ture species in fish farms in Kazakhstan with their genetic identification using DNA-markers” on the basis of «Kapshagai Spawning and Growing Farm-1973» LLP, research is being conducted on the cultivation of tench and giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) in industrial conditions.

The research team of the aquaculture laboratory of LLP «Fisheries Research and Production Center», senior researcher Badryzlova N.S., research associate Maratova G.M. and research associate Khalelov A.T., conducted a biological assessment and measured the objects of the study: tench and giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii), which are planted in rearing units: pools, closed water supply installation, trays and a pond. Experiments have been conducted with the use of live and artificial feeds using water from an artesian well and pond water. Tench samples were taken for genetic analysis.

Comprehensive hydrobiological and ichthyological studies are ongoing on the Kigach River

The Atyrau branch of the LLP «Fisheries Research and Production Center» continues its scientific research within the framework of the BR21882122 “Sustainable Development of Natural-Industrial and Socio-Economic Systems of the West Kazakhstan Region in the Context of Green Growth: A Comprehensive Analysis, Concept, Forecast Estimates and Scenarios”

The expedition team — consisting of the Director of the Atyrau branch, E.L. Kadimov, Senior Researcher T.A. Uteuliev, and Junior Researcher N.M. Batyrbek — visited observation stations along the Zhaiyk River, as well as in the Inder and Makhambet districts, to conduct scientific research.

As a result, hydrochemical, toxicological, hydrobiological, and ichthyological samples were collected, and the meteorological conditions of the research areas were recorded.

Currently, the collected samples are undergoing laboratory analysis.

Ichthyopathological Studies of Commercial Fish in the Zhaiyk and Kigash Rivers

As part of the implementation of the research project titled: “Ichthyopathological studies of commercial fish species in the main fishing reservoirs of Kazakhstan, and the development of comprehensive measures to reduce the risks of mass spread of infectious fish diseases”, work was carried out from April 22 to April 30, 2025, by employees of the Atyrau branch of LLP “Fisheries Research and Production Center”, in collaboration with specialists from Kazakh Scientific Research Veterinary Institute LLP and NPC Microbiology and Virology LLP.Ichthyological samples were collected in the Zhaiyk and Kigash rivers.

A total of 108 samples were submitted for laboratory testing, covering all types of commercial fish found in these reservoirs.

Caspian Zoobenthos Seminar Wrap-Up: Advancing Hydrobiological Research

The four-day hydrobiological seminar (April 22-25) on the topics “Species identification of zoobenthos invertebrate communities of the Caspian Sea” and “Methodology for processing hydrobiological samples and registration of protocols with the Testing Center mark,” organized by the Hydrobiology Laboratory of FishRPC, was completed on April 25, 2025.

The set goals and objectives were achieved during the seminar. Hydrobiological research methods were unified. Certificates were awarded to the seminar participants.

Comprehensive Hydrobiological and Ichthyological Studies on the Kigash River

Scientific research on the assessment of the natural resource potential of the natural-economic systems in the Western Kazakhstan region continues this year by the LLP “Fisheries Research and Production Center” focusing on fishery resources (in Atyrau and Mangystau regions).

The staff of the Atyrau branch of LLP “Fisheries Research and Production Center” involved in these studies have started the stage of conducting monitoring research on water bodies in the Atyrau region. At the observation stations along the Kigash River, from April 21 to 30, 2025, the expeditionary team, consisting of the Director of the Atyrau branch Kadimov E.L., Senior Researcher Uteuliev T.A., Researcher Kadimov B.L., and Junior Researcher Suleimenov S.B., carried out the collection of hydrochemical, hydrobiological, and ichthyological samples for laboratory analysis. In addition, meteorological conditions in the study area were being recorded.

As part of the ichthyological research, scientific sampling of fish is also being conducted at the monitoring stations.

A seminar for hydrobiologists is being held

Since April 22, 2025, a seminar for hydrobiologists on the topics of “Species identification of invertebrate communities of the Caspian Sea zoobenthos” and “Methodology for processing hydrobiological samples and drawing up protocols with the Test Center sign” has been held in the hydrobiology laboratory of the FishRPC.

Hydrobiologists from all branches of the FishRPC take part in the seminar. The purpose of the seminar is to improve the quality of hydrobiological research.

The seminar is conducted by the head of the hydrobiology laboratory, PhD, Zh. O. Mazhibaeva.

During the work on taxonomic identification, benthologists use an EX30 microscope with a camera monitor, which allows for significant detailing of the image for a more accurate identification of organisms.

Systematic holding of such seminars helps to unify the methods of hydrobiological research, taking into account the practical skills of more experienced employees, which, in general, brings the work of the FishRPC hydrobiologists to a higher level.
