Issues of Developing International Cooperation in the Fisheries Sector Discussed

On November 10, 2025, a working meeting was held at the LLP “Fisheries Research and Production Center” with representatives of the international companies Aller Aqua Group (Denmark) and Aller Aqua Polska (Poland) regarding the construction of the “Aller Aqua” feed production plant in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The delegation included:

  • Anders Bylling, CEO of Aller Aqua Group (Denmark);
  • Jacek Juchniewicz, CEO of Aller Aqua Polska (Poland);
  • Marcin Walczak, Export Director of Aller Aqua Polska (Poland).

The meeting was attended by:

  • Tursynali Marlen Tursynaliuly — Founder of LLP “TMT Group”;
  • Medvedev Sergey Nikolaevich — Founder of LLP “Grand Fish”;
  • Asanov Vyacheslav Borisovich — Founder of LLP “Shygys Universal”.

Deputy General Director of LLP “Fisheries Research and Production Center”, D.S. Akhmetzhanov, delivered a welcoming speech emphasizing the importance of cooperation in the development of the fisheries sector.

S.Zh. Assylbekova, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, and Deputy Head of the Science Department, presented the activities of the Center and it’s current projects.

During the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation in fisheries, aquaculture development, implementation of advanced technologies, and experience exchange. After the presentations, they discussed current issues and prospects for future collaboration.

IV Kazakhstan – Jordan Business Council

On August 19, 2025, a meeting of the IV Business Council between Kazakhstan and Jordan was held in an online format. During the meeting, the prospects for bilateral cooperation in key areas were discussed: pharmaceuticals, trade and logistics, agriculture and tourism.

A report on the topic “Overview of fisheries and aquaculture in Kazakhstan: current status and future” was made by R.T. Barakov, Senior Researcher at the Aquaculture Laboratory. In his speech, he noted the role of research as a strategic driver for the development of the industry, emphasizing the importance of applied research and projects implemented jointly with business representatives.

Particular attention was paid to the integration of science and business in Kazakhstan and Jordan in solving global challenges – food security, water scarcity and the effects of climate change.

The Council became a platform for strengthening partnerships and developing joint solutions aimed at sustainable development.

Appointment

By order of the Chairman of the Fisheries Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. S. Sermagambetov, Almat  Suyubaev has been appointed as the Head of LLP “Fisheries Research and Production Center”

Almat Sagintaevich was born in 1975. He began his professional career in 1997 as a referent in the Department for Caspian Sea Affairs and Regional Cooperation of the Department of Multilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 1997 to 2003, he progressed from the position of referent to First Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Between 2003 and 2012, he served as a secretary at the embassies of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Geneva.

From 2012 to 2016, he held the position of Advisor at the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Istanbul.

From 2017 to 2019, he served as Deputy Akim (Governor) of Saryagash District.

Between 2020 and 2021, he held the positions of Deputy Head and then Head of the Territorial Inspectorate of Forestry and Wildlife for the Turkestan and Almaty regions under the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 2021 to 2025, he honorably served as the Head of the Balkhash-Alakol Interregional Basin Fisheries Inspection under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

International Forum on Biodiversity Conservation in Central Asia

Today, at the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty), the International Forum “Challenges and Prospects for Biodiversity Conservation in Central Asia” is taking place, jointly organized with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The forum is held in honor of World Environment day and Ecologist’s Day.

Among the participants of the event are specialists from the LLP «Fisheries Research and Production Center»:

At the scientific and innovation exhibition within the forum, LLP «FishRPC» presented:

  • the exposition with live sturgeon specimens;
  • exhibits of research fish species in a preservation solution
  • scientific publications, including specialized atlases, monographs, and methodological guidelines;
  • patents for utility models developed by the LLP «FishRPC»

Key discussion topics at the forum included:

  • Challenges of sustainable development and biodiversity conservation
  • The role of protected areas in nature conservation
  • Environmental education and awareness
  • GIS technologies in biodiversity monitoring

The forum became an important platform for professional dialogue and the development of joint solutions. LLP «Fisheries Research and Production Center» continues to develop innovative scientific methods and expand international cooperation for the sustainable development of the Central Asian region.

Visit of the Japanese delegation to the LLP “Fisheries Research and Production Center”

On June 4, 2025, a delegation from the State of Japan visited the FishRPC on a working visit as part of a research project implemented with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The purpose of the visit was to conduct a feasibility study on the possibilities of using Japanese technologies and equipment on salmon farms in Kazakhstan.

The delegation included representatives of the Japanese companies Furatt Gosei Co., Ltd. and Daichu Corporation, as well as experts in the field of aquaculture and international consulting.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Director General of FishRPC, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Asylbekova S.Zh., who emphasized the importance of scientific exchange and international partnership for the sustainable development of the country’s fishing industry.

The report was made by the senior researcher of the aquaculture laboratory Bulavina N.B., presenting the key areas of research in the field of aquaculture and the prospects for the introduction of Japanese technologies in fish farms in Kazakhstan. During the visit, issues of equipment modernization, business opportunities and areas of cooperation in the field of fish farming between Kazakhstan and the state of Japan were discussed.

Research work in the Alakol lake system

Since May 14 of this year, the employees of the FishRPC (head of the expedition team – Karlybayuly S., researcher – Bakkozha Zh. M., researcher – Bekturov B. S., researcher – Zhdanko L. A., junior researcher – Otegen S. A. and driver – Abishev N.) have been conducting research work on the lakes of the Alakol system under programs BP 021 p/p 100 (PDU) and BP 267 p/p 101 (PCF).

At present, the expedition team is conducting the following work:

– physical-geographical and hydrological characteristics of reservoirs;

– analysis of hydrochemical parameters;

– analysis of the state of the food supply for fish in the reservoirs;

– determination of the species composition of fish and other aquatic organisms in water bodies.

During the period of scientific research work on water bodies, the chief specialist of the Alakol fish inspection department Suleimenov N.B. takes part.

Research of the Alakol lake system continues.

A seminar for hydrobiologists is being held

Since April 22, 2025, a seminar for hydrobiologists on the topics of “Species identification of invertebrate communities of the Caspian Sea zoobenthos” and “Methodology for processing hydrobiological samples and drawing up protocols with the Test Center sign” has been held in the hydrobiology laboratory of the FishRPC.

Hydrobiologists from all branches of the FishRPC take part in the seminar. The purpose of the seminar is to improve the quality of hydrobiological research.

The seminar is conducted by the head of the hydrobiology laboratory, PhD, Zh. O. Mazhibaeva.

During the work on taxonomic identification, benthologists use an EX30 microscope with a camera monitor, which allows for significant detailing of the image for a more accurate identification of organisms.

Systematic holding of such seminars helps to unify the methods of hydrobiological research, taking into account the practical skills of more experienced employees, which, in general, brings the work of the FishRPC hydrobiologists to a higher level.

International Scientific and Practical Conference “Experience and Prospects for the Development of Ornamental and Commercial Aquaculture”

On April 17–18, 2025, the city of Astana is hosting the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Experience and Prospects for the Development of Ornamental and Commercial Aquaculture.” The conference is organized by the Ailand Oceanarium (LLP “Ailand Astana”) and is held in a mixed offline/online format.

The program for the first day of the conference includes:

  • Presentations within the aquaristics section;
  • Presentations within the aquaculture section.

The General Director of LLP “Scientific and Production Center for Fisheries,” Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, and Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kuanish Baibolatovich Isbekov, delivered a presentation titled: “Breeding of Rare and Valuable Fish Species for the Purpose of Preserving Kazakhstan’s Biodiversity.”

The laboratory of hydrobiont genetics of the Fisheries Research and Production Center (Almaty) requires research staff.

Qualification requirements:

  1. Higher education in the field of natural sciences, agricultural sciences (specializing in “biology”, “genetics”, “biotechnology”, “zoology”, “fisheries”);
  2. Knowledge in the field of cellular and molecular biology;
  3. Experience in the specialty is welcome;
  4. Proficiency in the state and Russian languages;
  5. Computer proficiency at the user level: Windows, Microsoft Office Excel, Internet;
  6. Traveling on business trips.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Independently conducting research and development work on topics in accordance with approved programs, methods, work plan;
  2. Perform laboratory analysis, testing, measurements and other types of work during research and development;
  3. Participate in and collect and process materials during research and development;
  4. Prepare equipment for experiments and field trips;
  5. Participate in experiments, perform necessary preparatory and auxiliary operations, take instrument readings, keep work logs;
  6. Process, systematize and formalize analysis results in accordance with methodological materials;
  7. Perform various computational and graphic work.

 

Work schedule:

Monday through Friday, from 9:00 to 18:00.

Holidays are non-working days.

THE COMMITTEE OF FISHERIES DISCUSSED WAYS TO SOLVE CURRENT INDUSTRY PROBLEMS

The Fisheries Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a meeting chaired by the head of the department, Serik Sermagambetov. The event was attended by heads of interregional basin inspections, structural departments, and subordinate organizations.

During the meeting, issues related to the implementation of state support measures for the industry, strengthening efforts to attract investments, the introduction of digital e-Fish control tools, as well as the implementation of programs for stocking reservoirs, fulfilling state orders for the artificial reproduction of fish resources, and modernizing the production base of fish hatcheries were discussed. Special attention was paid to cooperation with local executive bodies, combating poaching, and anti-corruption measures.

Following the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee issued a number of instructions to the heads of interregional basin inspections and subordinate organizations aimed at developing the fishing industry.
