Kazakhstani companies that want to grow sturgeon must comply with the requirements of the international CITES Convention (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) to preserve biodiversity sturgeon species.
By company plans to engage in import and export of sturgeon products (caviar, salmon, fry for stocking) should carry out genetic examination and have genetic passports for herds of fish, in order to confirm that the fish, which is on the farm, is legal.
LLP “KazRIF”, being the scientific body of CITES in Kazakhstan , conducts genetic certification of sturgeon. Currently, work together LLP “Kazakh Research Institute of Fisheries” and LLP Research and Production Enterprise “Kazakh Osseter” on the introduction of genetic passports for sturgeon on the basis of the enterprise. The work is conducted with the support of foreign specialists of the All-Russian Research Institute Fisheries and Oceanography (Russia) from the laboratory of molecular genetics, which specialize in the problems of sturgeon and other valuable species of aquatic organisms.
Research staff of LLP “Kazakh Research Institute of Fisheries” work has already been done on the farm to assign genetic passports to sturgeon fish that have been selected in a brood stock, as a result of which each fish is supplied with a chip (electronic tag) with a digital code, by which you can find out complete information about the fish. For Caspian sturgeon (Russian sturgeon, beluga), individual genetic passports have been developed, genetic mass passports for herds have been developed for starlet and Siberian sturgeon.
Also, with the help of ultrasound diagnostics , researchers of the institute carried out the determination of the sex and stage of maturity of the fish . Sturgeon fish, which can already be selected in the brood stock, are transplanted into separate pools and further work is carried out with them. Feeding is produced by domestic feed and prepared for winter conditions and maintenance.
In the spring, from these selected fish, it is planned to receive caviar for further reproduction.
